The Pavilion (full title is the 'Maynard Sinclair Pavilion') is located in the magnificent Stormont grounds and can be accessed from the Upper Newtownards Road, near Dundonald House — there is a small sign that reads 'Pavilion Complex' and the gate pillars are of Portland Stone. REMEMBER: the Pavilion is a private club and unless you are a member you should not visit at any other time. You will not be granted access unless one of our Laurel and Hardy meetings is scheduled. Directions From Belfast take the Newtownards Road and travel along this road, past the areas known as the Holywood Arches and Ballyhackamore and keep straight ahead until you pass by the main entrance to the Stormont estate, known colloquially as 'The Mile'. This is now the Upper Newtownards Road. Continue along the Upper Newtownards Road through two sets of traffic lights and before you come to Dundonald House (a rather ugly 1960s high rise building, which is slightly curved and made of Portland stone). Just after the second set you will notice a small sign pointing to the left that reads 'Pavilion Complex'. Pass through the pillars of Portland stone and drive for 100-200 hundred yards along a narrow and winding road until you come to a large car park straight in front of you. Park anywhere that takes your fancy — provided that it is a designated car parking space that is unrestricted of course! There is a path that rises uphill beside the drop-arm barrier to the Pavilion's main entrance. When you open the door you will be confronted by a mini turnstile (waist high). The side entrance (for disabled guests) should be open for one of our functions, but if it is not then you should speak to the receptionist and tell them that you are there for the Another Fine Mess meeting. He/she will grant you access. We are meeting in the MacElhinney Suite but if the tent committee have not yet arrived to set up for the meeting you may wait in the main bar area or in the comfy seating in the main reception area. Disabled guests: If you are a Blue Badge holder you may proceed forward and to your left where you will see a drop-arm barrier and intercom. Press the buzzer on the intercom and tell the receptionist that you are attending the Another Fine Mess meeting and that you are disabled. They will let you through the barrier and you should proceed ahead about 50 yards uphill where there are a few disabled parking spaces just outside the main entrance door. When you enter the main door you should follow the instructions above. When you reach Comber you will see a sign pointing to the left, which is the town centre. Ignore that sign and travel straight ahead. After a long straight stretch the road veers to the left. You will come to a roundabout. We look forward to seeing you all there and will do all we can to ensure that you have a great night! |
